Colt Sheriff Model 1851 .44 caliber (Pietta). If it were possible to roll back the clock and ask "Wild" Bill what gun he would recommend for an upcoming shootist, he would be forced to admit that the model 1851 Colt would be hard to beat; the 1851 Colt was what Bill himself used. Suppose we shorten the barrel from seven and one-half inches to five and one-half inches how do you think that would stack up? And suppose that neighbor who has been hassling you over the hedge that separates your yards calls you out into the street and he is armed with the seven and one-half inch barrel? Well, you see it is now obvious why the Colt 1851 model was on occasion shortened a couple of inches. The Sheriff model 1851 is a versatile well handling revolver with only one draw back, the loading lever lacks in the leverage department requiring the loader to exert a little more strength to place the lead ball into proper position.

Remington model 1858 .44 caliber (Uberti) revolver. It is a known fact that the Uberti replica is not only finished to a higher degree of perfection than any of the other replicas on the market, but in addition even the metal is of superior quality. With credentials like that it would be hard for the Uberti Company to improve on a replica firearm, but in this case they did just that. The pictured revolver is somewhat unusual when compared to the majority of replica 1858 model Remington revolvers. Your vision is instantly attracted to the receiver. Gone is the blue finish that is normally encountered and in its place is a color case finish. This small but significant change dramatically improves the overall appearance of an already classic handgun. Now, did Remington actually color case the frames on any of their originals? Well, if they didn‚t they should have.

Whitney .36 caliber Navy model revolver. Eli Whitney, a true abolitionist hated slavery that is an historical fact. Strange that with such a distain for human bondage he would invent the cotton gin which made cotton king and prolong the need for forced servitude. Then along comes the Civil War with its overwhelming need for weapons, and there is good ole' Eli Whitney developing an exceptional handgun of which there were thousand manufactured and sold to the federal government to overthrow the revolution. It can be said that Mr. Whitney made little profit off of the cotton gin, I wonder if that was the case with his Whitney model revolver? Putting history aside the Whitney Navy model revolver has not been seen on the replica market for some time so we are fortunate that the Palmetto Company of Italy has chosen to offer it once again. The original Whitney was so we thought of that the South cloned the Whitney Navy model revolver in the famous Spiller and Burr Confederate revolver. The cylinder of the Whitney revolver is removed from the frame by turning the cylinder release forward of the cylinder on the frame a feature also found on the modern Ruger New Model Army. The loading lever and hammer are color casehardened; an excellent compliment to the polished blue barrel and frame. The barrel is seven and one half inches long. If historic correctness is important the Whitney will give you the advantage.

Connecticut Valley Arms flintlock caliber .50 rifle. This rifle was offered as an answer to the Pennsylvania state muzzleloading requirement of flintlocks and round balls only during the muzzleloading season. We are very pleased that Pennsylvania not only has this requirement, but that they field enough hunters to entice the manufacturers of muzzleloading rifles to fill the demand. The reason we feel so strongly is that it is very difficult these days to find an inexpensive flintlock rifle that shoots round balls. The entire market is geared to the inline muzzleloader that shoots some sort of plastic wrapped projectile so we that enjoy competitive shooting where round balls are a requirement find ourselves left on the outside. This light weight flintlock is ideal for competitive shooting in the flintlock class as it has a 1 in 48 twist that works well with the patched round ball. I have witnessed this rifle on the firing line and have been very impressed with the degree of accuracy that this economical rifle affords. If you happen to be in Pennsylvania for their muzzleloading season it will work well as a muzzleloading deer rifle, kind of two guns in one.

At a price of over two-hundred dollars this is obviously not a toy for children, this is a for real, firing cannon in .69 caliber. So if it is not for children to play with who would buy it? I am going to betray the masculine gender by admitting to what we have been accused of since we started shaving, and that is the only difference between men and boys is the price of our toys. We sell quite a few of these, not so miniature cannons, and of course few will admit that it is for their entertainment, but I am sure that is the purpose of the buyer. So if you want one of these just say it is for the mantle piece and only us guys will know the truth. This replica of a naval gun measures 15 inches oval all with a gun tube of 12 1/2", and stands 5 1/2" high. It is designed to shoot a lead ball, but in truth, you can load it with just about anything, just be sure to use black powder as the propellant.
