Taylor, Armi-Sport model 1874 Sharps caliber 45-70 rifle (new). There are those, mainly of the fairer sex, that think it strange that the more masculine of us wish to own a Buffalo Rifle. What possible need, with the large herds of Bison gone these last one-hundred years, would we have for such a firearm? With the terrorist attacks of 9-11 still fresh in our memories and talk of the possibility of such forgotten illnesses as Small Pox being re-introduced how far out of the question could the mass repopulation of this almost extinct mammal be. I, for one have left nothing to chance stocking my gun safe with more than one example of the large bore black powder cartridge rifles. Preparation is always the wisest thing that we can do given the possibility. The Taylor rifle is mounted both front and rear with the long range sights capable of dropping even the most distant threat to our flower gardens; a good point to make when presenting your desire to own a Buffalo Rifle to your wife. The barrel is 32" octagon with a straight taper from the breech to the muzzle. The Walnut stock is a straight grip with a crescent steel buttplate. The forearm, also of Walnut has a styled forearm to duplicate that of the original. These rifles have proven to deliver long-range silhouette accuracy out to five-hundred yards with sufficient energy to knock down a sixty pound steel target. Of course, we recommend the use of black powder, or substitute but factory smokeless powder rounds are just fine. If you have never loaded cartridges with black powder please feel free to ask how it is done as the smoke from the fired black powder cartridge adds much to the nostalgia of these historic firearms.
